August TBR List

As a kid and teen, I was a fast reader and could knock out lengthy books in a week or two. Now that I’m an adult, I seem to struggle to read even one title in a month. So for now, these lists will feature three or four books. But I hope over time, I’ll be able to stretch them out to five, six or even seven books.

April was such a good month for me. Despite not finishing the first Camp NaNoWriMo challenge of the year, I still have a rough beginning for my new novel. I’ll be honest, most of it is crap and will either be edited out or heavily revised in future drafts. But it’s still a start and that was my biggest goal for this month.

In short, this is speculative fiction at its absolute best. Every time I finished a story, I was convinced nothing could top it. Then I’d start the next story and fall in love all over again. (I fell in love 25 times over the course of reading this!)

Also, I want to take the time to acknowledge that Jemisin is a hardworking writer. I believe these books were all published within a year of one another and I’d like to imagine that she had everything nicely outlined and planned out before beginning the first draft. But it’s still impressive that she managed to publish three, phenomenal, award-winning books in such a short amount of time!
