About Me

Photograph of Brittany Smith

Born in Georgia, raised in Virginia, my love and appreciation of books and storytelling began when I was child. As I grew older, I learned that phenomenal stories could come from other places besides the space between the front and back cover of a book. As an author, I draw inspiration from books, TV shows, movies (both animated and live-action), music and video games.

I graduated from the University of Virginia with a B.A. in Political Science and Italian in 2013. And in 2017, I earned my M.F.A in Creative Writing (Fiction) from the University of New Hampshire. I hope to return to school in the near future and complete a Masters of Library Sciences program, so I can transition from a Senior Library Assistant to a Research Librarian.

I’m constantly juggling several different projects at any given moment. It’s difficult to create a complete list of works on my rooster. But here are some of my current ‘works-in-progress’:

  • A Young Adult novel set during Reconstruction
  • A Science-Fiction novella about a spacefaring librarian
  • A Fantasy short story about a young girl learning the truth about her magical, immortal mother
  • A Science-Fiction epistolary short story about two women falling in love as their home world implodes

Thanks for visiting this space! My goal is to provide some insight into my writing process and show other writers just one, out of many ways, to tackle a creative work. I also hope to deeply examine some of my favorite stories and break their components apart to better understand the elements of a good story! If you have any questions or comments, feel free to drop them in the comment box.

I appreciate you and your support! Happy Writing!
